The LGCA launched its Holiday Cannabis campaign in November 2021 to encourage Manitobans to make informed decisions about their cannabis use during the holiday season. The campaign offered tips and strategies for responsible and safer cannabis use, including:

  • Inform others if food contains cannabis. 
  • Avoid mixing cannabis with alcohol. 
  • Choose low-THC products.
  • Store cannabis away from children and pets.

LGCA research in 2020 pointed to gaps in Manitobans’ knowledge about cannabis, for example, how quickly and for how long cannabis effects would be felt, specific risks of edibles because of their delayed effect, and the importance of checking THC content. This research also showed that awareness and use of lower-risk strategies — such as choosing lower-THC products and limiting cannabis consumption — was low among Manitobans, showing an increased need for public education.

This campaign was repeated in 2022.
